A note from the Artist:
What Matters was written in 1998, in response to the death of college student, Matthew Shepard. The song is a testament to his life, his family and
the unconditional love they represent. My initial intent was only to write a song to honor his legacy and his family.
However, after being encouraged by friends and fellow musicians to record the song, I decided to release the cd as a benefit single for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
With further encouragement from Dana Lee Wood a long time SD musician, and several musicians who donated their time and talents, we were able to record the original single for What Matters. I began performing the song all over the country, and even selling the single out of the trunk of my car. Over the years, I’ve often performed the song at Judy Shepard’s side and I am proud to say, I have been fortunate to witness first hand, the amazing advances the work of the Matthew Shepard Foundation has contributed to the fight against hate.
To date, the song has been sung at the Millennium March on Washington, a national HRC dinner honoring Hillary Clinton, over forty pride festivals, one hundred colleges and universities, awards ceremonies and high schools in the USA and Canada.
As more requests came in to perform the song, I was contacted by several choirs to create a choral version of the song. With the help of Kevin Robison who donated his talents to arrange the piece, we published the choral music. In keeping with tradition of the song, the royalties from the sales of the sheet music also benefit the work of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. The sheet music for choirs can be purchased at www.yeltohrhodesmusic.com
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles premiered the choral piece in 2004 and it was later recorded at Paramount Studios. In the months ahead several choirs performed it, including NYGMC at New’s York’s prestigious, Carnegie Hall. What Matters was given an honorable mention in Rolling Stone Magazine in 2002 and 2006, and it was was named a top ten Pride Anthem by the Advocate magazine. What Matters continues to be performed all over the world, and to date, it has appeared in over twenty productions of The Laramie Project.

Love is Love
Ten years after the release of What Matters, Randi Driscoll released her follow-up song, Love is Love.
Love is Love is an up tempo song written in direct response to the No on 8 campaign in her home state of California, a measure that would deny equal rights to same sex couples that wanted to marry.
The track is produced by Randi Driscoll and Noah Heldman. Choral Music will soon be available for this work. Please check back for details.
From the Artist : I’ve seen a good deal of change and promise in the past ten years, but our work is far from done. LOVE IS LOVE is my What Matters, 10 years later; full of hope, faith, and the promise of change”- ..”the tides of change are on the seas…” Randi Driscoll
